The eleven players who produced the most FPL points. Budget ignored. Reality respected.

The Team of the Season is not a buildable squad. There's no £100m budget, no three-per-club limit, no positional cap beyond a notional 3-4-3. What follows is the season's actual heat map, laid out by position. Who produced, where, and by how much.

Bruno Fernandes finished top with 235 points, but the structural detail underneath is what matters more for thinking about 2026/27. Three midfielders cleared 200 this season. Two defenders broke into the overall top fifteen. The forwards behind Haaland were closer together than usual, which makes the second forward slot a more open question than the table suggests. Midfield carried the year, and that's the pattern most worth carrying into squad-building decisions.

The leaderboards are where the more useful 2026/27 thinking actually lives. The top three names in each bracket will be priced for top three production. The names ranked five through fifteen are where the value gets made or lost.

Each player's headline production, with a short note on what the data thinks made their season go. xG over-performance is flagged where it matters, because finishing well above expected goals is the part of a season that historically does not repeat cleanly.

Raya · Arsenal

The season's top-scoring goalkeeper at 162 points and 19 clean sheets, off a starting price of £5.5m. 29.5 points per million is the kind of goalkeeper return that pays for an upgrade elsewhere, and it was available to anyone who picked Arsenal's first choice in pre-season.

The top defender of the season at 209 points, on 18 clean sheets, 3 goals, 5 assists, and 277 CBIT. Started at £6.0m and finished at £7.3m. The clean sheets get the headlines, but the CBIT total is what made him the best defender of the year by a clear margin, because it added a second points stream onto a player whose first stream was already among the best in the league.

Second-best defender at 179 points. 14 clean sheets, 3 goals, 5 assists, 278 CBIT, all off a starting price of £4.5m. 39.8 points per million, which is the highest defender PPM in the entire dataset. If you owned him from gameweek one, your mini-league was won at the back.

Third-best defender at 175 points. 6 assists, 11 clean sheets, and the highest CBIT total of any defender in the league at 419. Started at £4.5m and stayed cheap for most of the way. Bournemouth produced the season's most consistent under-priced defenders, and Senesi was the centerpiece.

B.Fernandes · Man Utd

The top midfielder of the season and the top scorer overall at 235 points. 9 goals, 24 assists, 287 CBIT, on a starting price of £9.0m. One of the few players this season who was credibly captainable and credibly bench-able in the same week, depending on the fixture.

Second-best midfielder at 202 points. 17 goals, 6 assists, 236 CBIT, on a starting price of £7.0m. He outscored his expected goals by 5.9, which is the kind of overshoot that often regresses. But the price kept climbing through the season and the production held, which suggests the underlying role changed in a way the xG model didn't fully catch.

Gibbs-White · Nott'm Forest

Third-best midfielder at 188 points. 15 goals, 4 assists, 178 CBIT. He also ended the season at 9.2% ownership, which makes him the highest scorer on the Best Differentials page. That fact tells you most of what you need to know about how 2025/26 went for the managers who actually had him.

184 points and a top-five midfielder finish. 4 goals, 9 assists, and 376 CBIT, which is the second-highest defensive contribution total among midfielders this season. The role didn't change. The scoring system did. The result is a player most managers had pegged as a £6m enabler finishing among the best midfielders in the league.

Top forward and top scorer overall at 239 points, on 27 goals and 8 assists. xG overshoot of 1.5. Started at £14.0m and finished at £14.7m. The market kept buying him through the season, and the production held up well enough to justify the price every step of the way.

Third-best forward at 181 points. 22 goals from a single assist, which is a goal-to-assist ratio you almost never see at this level. Started at £6.0m and stayed cheap longer than he had any business doing. The best forward PPM of the season at 30.2.

Finished #3 among forwards with 177 points, 15 goals, 9 assists. Picked up 30 bonus points along the way, a sign of how often he was in the BPS top three on the night.

What it means for 2026/27

Two takeaways from the eleven worth carrying into next season. First, midfield was the deepest bracket of the year by a real margin. There were more legitimately must-own candidates at midfielder than at any other position, and that kind of depth tends to pull pre-season money out of forwards and into the £6.5 to £9.5m midfield band. Expect the same shape when 2026/27 prices land.

Second, the defenders who made the eleven all did it on a combination of clean sheets and CBIT, not one or the other. Pure clean-sheet bets are no longer the best defender archetype. The highest-scoring defenders combined both streams, and that changes how a serious 2026/27 back four should be built. You're looking for defenders who can hold a clean sheet and contribute defensively in matches where they don't, which is a different filter than the one most managers used twelve months ago.
